SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
We on the Planet Ruhnu seek a balance between the planet's limited ecological resources and the development of well-being for people, in other words, a plan for the sustainability of business and its development, which also serves as a direction for our venture.
The farm-to-fork cafe in Ruhnu Cultural Center will support the local community with it's plans based on the principles of sustainable development. The principles are divided into 17 sub-chapters, all of which are also discussed in the description of the principles of sustainable development of Planet Ruhnu.
It is a way to introduce the island's guests to the multi-layered culture of Ruhnu (with influences from Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark and Livonia), as well as to support existing cultural institutions and develop new sustainable experiences based on central development. Today's taste of Ruhnu Island will be a hybrid of the past, the future and the pure food of the island.
We also plan to join Green Key and other similar networks to show an example of the possibility of an island living in harmony with a sustainable environment. Since Ruhnu island belongs to the Unesco biosphere of the Western Estonian islands program, the harmony of the coexistence of man and nature is behind the principles of establishing the cafe.
As much as possible the raw materials offered in our cafe come from the sea around Ruhnu island, local forests or meadows and community fields, products of local sheep and chicken farmers. If not found on the island, at least from the borders of Saare county.
