The idea of the Planet Ruhnu café was born from a coincidence of random events and situations when Mihkel met Eeva on a ship. The ship, named Svea, was on its way from Ruhnu to Kihnu Island with a plan to offer the neigbouring islanders of Kihnu a proper Ruhnu experience. The ship's captain Silver had invited Eeva, known for Ruhnu's best hamburgers, to help with food. And his friend Mihkel, an architect, was invited to keep spirits up and mix cocktails. It was, of course, love at first sight, at the sea.
Mihkel and Eeva love good food and each other. Days on Ruhnu island are full of fishing, foraging in the forests, meadows and beaches for herbs, berries and mushrooms, growing organic food in the village community garden and in the greenhouse, helping with local livestock and so much more - which all add up to pure Ruhnu flavors. The fresh fish and local seasonal organic food in the contemporary casual atmosphere is an experience that is worth a trip to Ruhnu Island.
As the story sometimes goes, one thing leads to another and that's how the plan for the Planet Ruhnu café was born. Ruhnu's new kitchen is a fusion of history, local nature, and modern principles, ideas that will compose the Ruhnu of today. This is food that will say 'I love You' with every bite. This is the food that keeps us on Ruhnu island.
